TON winning Red Dot design award 2011
The international competition RED DOT DESIGN AWARD ranks among the biggest and the most renowned competitions in the world, dealing with the processing and design of products. Every year, an independent international commission evaluates registered products and evaluates them according to strict criteria, such as the degree of innovation, functionality and general product quality. This method of organization and evaluation is a guarantee of respectability of the competition which is supported and renowned throughout the world.
We were awarded the prestigious prize RED DOT DESIGN AWARD 2011 for the MERANO product by the designer Alexander Gufler, a young Italian designer living in Austria
Merano
New modern chairs with a natural face by the young Italian designer living in Austria, Alex Gufler, holds the name of his hometown, the Italian wellness city Merano. This chair may just hold the image of influences affecting Alex during his work – Italian temperament, Austrian consistency, peace of the spas, comfort and freshness of local mountains.
Two bent pieces of plywood crossed axis-wise, serving as a seat and backrest are the dominant elements of the chair. Despite these bends, the legs (supports) of the chair deny traditional bends seen in TON products and remain completely straight. The material used guarantees stability and solidness while maintaining a very low weight.
The motto for Merano is: "Why? Because sometimes you like a painting for the way it looks... But you can also like the frame it comes in." And this means that Merano is designated for those who select a chair primarily for its appearance, as well as for people who prefer the practical aspect when sitting down. Wave
The Wave armchair is the winner of the competition for the best redesign of a standard rocking chair, announced on the occasion of the 150 years of bentwood production in Bystrice pod Hostynem.
The young Slovak designer, Michal Riabic, was able to put himself in the same mood and he created an exclusive product in between a rocking chair, a lounge armchair and in particular a space solitaire. Put yourself in the same mood too and rock into restful moments for yourself.
